Hey- I'm trying to learn how to configure, compile and install the kernel. In my research, I discovered you need someone to rewrite the HOWTO page for that issue. I'm not expert on the subject (obviously!), but I am an expert technical writer. And besides, what better way to gain the skills I need? You must be talking about your post that makes no sense. “Hey-” Hello “I'm trying to learn how to configure, compile and install the kernel.” So if I am reading your post correctly, you are “learning“ how to configure, compile, and install your own custom made kernel image. “In my research, I discovered you need someone to rewrite the HOWTO page for that issue.” You doing this is because you think that you are a superior technical writer to all those who have written the “How To” articles you have read regarding the configuring, compiling, and the installation of your own custom kernel image. “I'm not expert on the subject (obviously!), but I am an expert technical writer.” With a post that starts out as “Hey-”, having any sort of structure or relevant wording, and a following sentence that starts with the word “And” I can not see how anyone would disagree with you in saying that “ I am an expert technical writer”. Are you a high school grammar teacher as well? “And besides, what better way to gain the skills I need?” The discovery that you have absolutely no experience in configuring, compiling, or installing a kernel as well as learning that you are a better technical writer then those who have configured, compiled, and installed their own custom kernels would suggest that you were a savant. If you can write or rewrite the “how to” page for configuring, compiling, and installing a kernel better then those who do it for a living, and have already taken the time to write a “how to” then you would already have the skills you need wouldn't you? “If you don't have an expert who can pair with me, I may know a guy.” If you have someone who may be willing to help you then why bother us? Wouldn't it be easier to ask them first then go ask for help? Your lack of detail, and understanding makes it very hard to provide you with anything. “Are you unfamiliar with good academic writing practice?”
No I run spell check to search for my spelling and grammatical errors. I also ask some one with a writing or English major to look over my papers for me. I will spell this out for you. When I have a paper, or article that I am writing and I need the advice of “good academic writing practices” I usually go see someone who is qualified to do that type of job. It is usually someone who has English, and/or writing major. When I have a paper or article that I need technical help on (ie a tutorial, how to, ebook, and so on...) I ask the advice of someone who is in the field, in which the article was written. So this means that your question is based more on “good academic writing practices” and not on how to configure, compile, or install a kernel? If this is so then you are in the wrong forum. If it is not then you need to rephrase your question and ask again because you make no sense. “At no point did I ask for a free ride to knowledge.” Well that just seems silly. I don't know anyone (well I guess one person) who is not willing to learn something because it is a free ride to knowledge. I am pretty sure Google will let you donate money to them. You should make it a point to let Larry Page, and Sergey Brin know that you are donating money to Google because you feel that a free ride to knowledge is wrong. “If that's not clear enough for you, I'm sure your local cafe needs a dishwasher.” Funny I was just there this morning having breakfast. Would you like me to pick up a application for you? I personally would rather stick to being a software developer who has the ability to configure, compile, and install my own kernels. I can even read documentation that helps me with the things that I don't know how to do. Oddly enough I also know how to be polite and detailed when I am asking for help, or responding to someone who is trying to help. Let's see how may other people took the time to respond to you? “Don't ask people to read the manual when you can't even take the time to read the original post.” Unless I am experiencing dejavu, I just explained this to you. If you are not willing to RTFM, be detailed or make any sense, use Google for whatever reason, be patent or polite then don't expect any help. Since you have such a charming personalty towards those who try to help I thought it would be a nice gesture to go ahead and report your post's for you.
