Is this a trick question? Because he was uncompromising?

There is a big difference between GPL->LGPL and Open Documents->Exclusive
publishing deals. They're in completely different leagues.

The GPL->LGPL was a move to greater freedom at the cost of exclusivity.

What is being proposed works in completely the opposite direction, it is
a move to restrict the publishing of documents by introducing exclusivity.
